Mortgage interest relief
What interest relief can I get when I secure a mortgage? You can claim mortgage tax relief on your mortgage interest payments. The amount will depend on whether or not you're a first-time buyer.

These rates apply for the first seven years of the mortgage. After that, the amount of relief drops to the rates which apply to all other borrowers.

Your lender will issue you with a form, you fill it out and forward it to the revenue offices to get your tax relief at source. The above figures are correct as of January 2007
